SKETCH EVERY DRESS Open your sketchbook and build each gown piece by piece: a sweetheart, square-neck or corset bodice; puff, cap or bishop sleeves; and a two-tier, A-line or full ball gown skirt. Watch the sketch change as you go. CHOOSE FABRICS AND TRIMS Pull rolls from a shelf full of fabrics, from morning sky silk and rosewood velvet to lavender lace and plum brocade. Use one fabric for the whole dress or a different one for each piece, then add the finishing touches — a satin bow, lace trim, pearl buttons, rose appliqué and more. CUT AND SEW IN YOUR WORKSHOP Take the design to your workshop table. Lay the paper patterns on the fabric with their arrows along the grain, cut the pieces out with your shears and stitch the seams on your sewing machine. Careful craft raises the quality of the dress — and helps you earn every star.
