Darc: Dark Mode for Safari
Darius Cirjan
Darc is a Safari extension that gives every website the look you want: a real dark theme on bright sites, and a clean light theme on sites that only come in dark. BOTH DIRECTIONS Dark mode recolors a bright page properly, with readable text and calm backgrounds, instead of just dimming it. Light mode does the opposite on dark-only sites, so a page built black can read like paper. AUTOMATIC Turn Darc on once in Safari and it handles every page. When a site has its own dark theme, Darc switches that on instead of repainting the page. In System mode, sites follow your device appearance. It also keeps up with modern web apps that change pages without reloading. YOUR RULES, SITE BY SITE Tap the Darc button in the Safari toolbar to set any site to Dark, Light or Off. Darc remembers the rule, and you can see and edit every rule in the app. DARK HOURS Pick a window, say from 9 PM to 7 AM, and in System mode sites go dark inside it, whatever your device is set to. FINE-TUNING Adjust brightness, contrast, sepia and saturation for every site or for one site only. Turn on true black for OLED screens, or keep a softer, warmer dark. WHAT DARC LEAVES ALONE Photos and videos keep their original colors. Maps, payment fields, CAPTCHA checks, code editors and color pickers are left as they are, because a broken checkout is never a good theme. IF A PAGE BREAKS Darc checks its own work. If a theme leaves text unreadable or a page misbehaves, Darc puts the page back the way the site made it. IPHONE, IPAD AND MAC Darc works in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac. With iCloud on, your settings and site rules follow you between devices. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Pages are restyled on your device. Darc has no servers, so your browsing history and page content are never sent to us. No account, no tracking, no ads. The app is available in 45 languages. ONE PURCHASE FOR IPHONE, IPAD AND MAC Darc is a paid app with every feature included. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription. Buy it once and it works on your iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account. Requires iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 15 or later. After installing, turn on Darc in Safari's extension settings and allow it on websites.
