Hindcast Weather
Pablo Miranda
Hindcast is a weather app that tells you how sure the forecast is, not just what it says. It blends seven forecast models (ECMWF, AIFS, GFS, HRRR, NBM, ICON and GEM), says how far they agree, and checks every forecast against the nearest weather station each night, so every place has a track record. Open it and you get one plain sentence, the temperature, and three tally marks for how far the models agree. Tap them for the reason in words. Everything else is one tap deeper, never all at once. TODAY, AT A GLANCE A headline, the temperature, the confidence marks, the next hours with their chance of rain, Today and Tonight, and a 10-day list. NWS alerts appear at the top with a link. MODELS AND HIGHLIGHTS Whether the models agree, mostly agree or are split on today, the range they put the high in and how many show rain. Highlights that state their evidence, and yesterday's high and low at the station against what was forecast. RAIN IN THE NEXT 2 HOURS Quarter-hour steps from 15-minute model data, shown when rain is due. TRACK RECORD The last 30 days of next-day forecasts against the nearest weather station: highs within 2°F, the average miss, rain calls right, the streak, a strip of receipts one per day, and the score at every lead from one day to seven. Free, wherever a station is within 25 km. RADAR In the United States, the radar loop every five minutes over a map of the place. CONDITIONS Air quality with fine particles against the WHO guideline, UV with its level, pollen in Europe, pressure and its trend, tides where there is sea, hours of sunshine, and the Moon. HOUR, DAY, SKY, HORIZON AND CONTEXT Tap any hour or day for its temperature and the range across models, rain, wind, UV, sun and the Moon. Cloud at three heights. Rain out to 40 km in any direction. Today against the typical high for the date. PLACES Search by name, save as many places as you like, see your current location. Times read in the place's own time zone and units follow your device's region. HINDCAST PRO, US$9.99 A YEAR Everything above is free, with no account. Hindcast Pro, an optional yearly subscription, adds: - Every model's own scores at every lead, and the Scorecard: every saved place on one page with its 30-day scores, streak and receipts. - The Almanac: every value, dense, on ink, in tables for 24 hours and 10 days, plus a layer map you can scrub and play. - Notifications: rain 15, 30 or 60 minutes ahead, forecast changes, golden and blue hour, and a morning brief, planned on your device. - Report card: how each day's forecast held up against this device's own readings, with export. - Best time to run, ride, walk the dog, hang laundry or eat outside. - Trip forecast with what to pack. Compare places side by side. - Shortcuts and Siri, widgets for any place, an Apple Watch complication, seven app icons, and Settings for units, notifications and the cards on Today. Subscribe in the app, or sign in with your hindcastweather.com Pro account: one Pro on both. Renews yearly at US$9.99 unless cancelled 24 hours before the period ends; manage it in your Apple Account settings. The marks say how far the models agree: a measurement, not a promise. Radar covers the United States. The Horizon and the layer map are built from sampled Apple Weather forecast points, not radar, and say so. When the site cannot answer, Apple Weather fills in. PRIVATE No ads, no analytics, no account unless you want Pro. A place is rounded to an 11 km area before it is sent to hindcastweather.com. Your exact location goes only to Apple Weather, as the fallback and for the map views. Saved places stay on your device. Forecasts: seven models via Open-Meteo, NWS and METAR stations, blended and scored by hindcastweather.com. Apple Weather for typical values, the map views, and as the fallback.
