Laos Now: Travel & Weather
HA QUANG Huy
Laos Now tells you what today is actually like in Laos — and what to do about it. WEATHER YOU CAN ACT ON Live conditions for Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and more, turned into an hourly suitability score for each place. A waterfall at 2pm in heavy rain is not the same trip as a temple courtyard, and the app says so instead of handing you a number and leaving you to guess. THE LAO CALENDAR, DONE PROPERLY Public holidays and the Buddhist lunar festivals — Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Boun Khao Phansa, Boun Ork Phansa, That Luang — with dates computed from the lunar phase for any year, not typed in for a single one. Sunrise, sunset and the lunar day for whichever city you have selected. A PLANNER THAT READS THE FORECAST Pick your cities, your days and your departure date. Every leg gets a real calendar date, the forecast for that date, and any festival or public holiday that falls on it. When one day is a washout and another is clear, the planner swaps the outdoor day with the sheltered one — the city you assigned to each date never moves. PRACTICAL THINGS • Lao Kip converter with live exchange rates (USD, THB, VND, EUR, CNY) • Laos–China Railway timetable for the main routes, with fares in kip and converted at today's rate • Lao phrasebook with pronunciation you can play out loud • Map view of places, with everything you save kept on your device • Full Lao and English throughout • Places, calendar and phrasebook keep working without a connection STRAIGHT ANSWERS We do not sell mobile data or recommend a provider — the connectivity page is a guide, not a shop. Train times are a published timetable snapshot and are labelled as one, with the source and date shown, so you confirm before you travel. Where a booking link belongs to a partner, we say so.
