NutricionAR
Santiago Giron
NutricionAR tells you how good a packaged food is. Scan the barcode and in a second you get a score from 0 to 100, with the detail of why. HOW THE SCORE IS WORKED OUT The score comes from three blocks, and none of them is our opinion: • Nutrient profile (55 points). The same thresholds Argentina's Law 27,642 uses to decide whether a product carries warning labels: added sugars, total fat, saturated fat, sodium and calories. • Additives (30 points). Every additive is classified citing the source behind that classification: EFSA, IARC, JECFA or the Argentine Food Code. You can read the reason for each one. • Processing level (15 points). NOVA classification, from the University of São Paulo. We don't use artificial intelligence or user votes to score. If you want to argue with a number, you can see exactly where it came from. WHEN WE DON'T KNOW, WE DON'T MAKE IT UP This is the app's most important decision. If a product is missing data, NutricionAR doesn't hand you a number anyway: it tells you there's no score, and why. A figure nobody filled in is not the same as a zero declared on the label, and the engine treats them differently. For the same reason we don't score alcoholic drinks: Law 27,642 doesn't cover them, and giving them a number would mean inventing a criterion of our own. BUILT FOR ARGENTINA Most apps of this kind use international databases with thin local coverage. NutricionAR combines Open Food Facts with the database of products registered with ANMAT, Argentina's food authority, and searches both. If a product isn't there, you can photograph the label: we read the RNPA registry number and the nutrition table on your own phone, without sending the photo anywhere. That contribution solves the scan for you instantly and, once someone else agrees, it counts for everyone. ANMAT RECALLS AND ALERTS When ANMAT pulls a product from the market or bans it, we tell you. Word of a recall reaches whoever reads the news; the person who bought it last week almost never hears about it. This is not paywalled and never will be: a recall is about whether something is safe to eat. ALLERGIES Add your allergies and NutricionAR warns you before the score if the product contains them. This is health data: it lives only on your phone, never syncs and never leaves the device. WHAT'S FREE AND WHAT'S PAID Free, always: scanning, the full score with its breakdown, ANMAT recalls and alerts, the gluten-free seal, the allergy check, search and history. Membership adds three things: the shopping cart (add products and see how the whole trip is going), the monthly email report and healthier alternatives. You can pay yearly with automatic renewal, or once for lifetime access. WITH OR WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT Scanning, searching, viewing scores and using allergies all work without signing up. An account is for backing up your history if you change phones, sharing scans and receiving recall alerts. You can delete it from the app whenever you want. WHAT THIS APP IS NOT NutricionAR does not give personalised medical or nutritional advice. It is a tool for reading labels with more context than fits on the package. If you have a health condition, talk to a professional. MEMBERSHIP: TERMS • Annual: USD 12.99 per year, automatically renewed. • Lifetime: USD 50, a single payment, never renewed.
