Real411 - Report Online Harms
Exonic Solutions (Pty) Ltd
Real411 is a free, public reporting platform run by Moxii Africa. It lets anyone in South Africa report harmful content they come across online, and have it assessed by an independent panel. WHAT YOU CAN REPORT Real411 handles four kinds of online harm: • Mis- or disinformation • Hate speech • Incitement to violence • Harassment HOW IT WORKS Report what you saw, on WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, BlueSky, a website, radio or TV. Add a link, a screenshot or a photo as evidence. Your complaint gets revieed by four experts and an outcome is issued. Real411 is independent of government and of the platforms. The Committee assesses each complaint and publishes a finding: • Green — little likelihood of online harm • Orange — elements of online harm • Red — high likelihood of online harm Depending on the finding, a complaint may be referred to the platform, to the Electoral commission, the South African Human Rights Commission, to the police, or to a court — or answered with a published counter-narrative. FOLLOW YOUR COMPLAINT Track every complaint you submit, from received through review and assessment to the outcome. Ask to be emailed or alerted on whatsapp when something changes. SEE WHAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED Browse complaints the public has submitted and the findings the Committee has published, and share a complaint with anyone who needs to see it. REPORT FROM ANY APP Share a post straight into Real411 from the app you found it in, and the details are filled in for you.
