ListenAR helps you understand and speak Arabic when the other language is Russian, Ukrainian, Thai, or Turkish. It is built for real moments—listening in a conversation, reading a menu, or checking a message—not for translating one hundred languages you will never use. LANGUAGES (TODAY) • Live speech and Apple Watch: Russian, Ukrainian, and Thai → Arabic • Camera and Vision: read and translate Turkish text (and many other languages in photos) into the language you choose, often Arabic • More live speech languages are on the way; we are starting with four core pairs focused on Arabic WHY LISTENAR INSTEAD OF A GENERIC TRANSLATOR • Purpose-built for Arabic conversations, not a cluttered world map • Live tab keeps up while people talk—tap Start, see Arabic on screen, scroll history, copy or hear lines again • Apple Watch app mirrors live translation on your wrist when your phone is nearby • Camera points at signs, labels, and menus with on-device text recognition • Vision translates text already in your photos or the first frame of a short video • Optional AI (your own OpenRouter key) only when you need it—for photos in Vision or harder wording—not for every sentence LIVE • Choose Russian, Ukrainian, or Thai, tap Start, and speak • Arabic appears as people talk; partial lines update, then finalize • Session history stays on your iPhone; star favorites to find them later • Typed translator in Live (keyboard icon) for pasted text ↔ Arabic without the mic • Works with the watch mic: record on Apple Watch, transcribe and translate on iPhone when paired TALK • Talk tab for Arabic ↔ your partner language (Russian, Ukrainian, or Thai) • Type or speak Arabic and see the translation on the other side • Full two-way microphone conversation mode is still growing; Talk today is best for quick back-and-forth typing CAMERA • Live camera view for menus, street signs, packaging, and labels • On-device detection plus translation toward Arabic or another language you pick • Handy when you are moving and do not want to type VISION • Pick a photo or short video from your library • AI reads the text and translates into your chosen language (Arabic by default) • Requires enabling AI in Settings with your own OpenRouter API key PRIVACY • ListenAR does not run a central server for your conversations • Translation history and favorites stay on your device • Speech and on-device Apple translation are handled on your iPhone using Apple frameworks • Optional AI sends text (not raw audio) to OpenRouter only when you turn it on and supply your own API key • Your API key is stored in the device Keychain • Feedback is sent only when you choose to send it from the Feedback tab • You can clear history and diagnostic logs from Settings APPLE WATCH • Companion app for live translation on the wrist • Now and History tabs, session status, and notifications when new Arabic lines arrive from the phone session • Install the iPhone app first; the watch app installs with it REQUIREMENTS • iPhone requires iOS 18 or later for Apple on-device translation and the Talk tab • Microphone permission for Live and watch audio • Camera permission for the Camera tab • Photo library access for Vision • Internet needed for optional AI, first-time language pack downloads, and feedback ListenAR is a communication aid.
