BNWAS

BNWAS is a personal watch-discipline aid for mariners who want a simple, reliable alertness timer on their iPhone. It is inspired by the Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System concept used on commercial vessels, but this app is a personal tool — not certified navigation or safety equipment. HOW IT WORKS Set the interval between alertness checks (3, 6, 9, or 12 minutes) and start your watch. The app runs a countdown. At the end of each interval, a visual alert asks you to confirm you are awake and attentive. If you do not respond, an audible alarm follows. Tap I'M HERE to reset the timer and begin the next interval. Tap END WATCH when your shift is over. FEATURES - Countdown timer with selectable intervals (3 / 6 / 9 / 12 minutes) - Two-stage alert: silent visual first, then audible alarm - Keep Screen Awake during active watch - Lock-screen and Control Center playback controls - Dark, red-accent night palette for night-vision friendliness - Runs in the background, continues alerting when the screen is locked - No account, no tracking, no data collection, no ads WHO IT'S FOR Yacht crews, solo sailors, recreational mariners, bridge officers who want a personal backup tool, and anyone standing long watches who needs help staying alert and accountable. IMPORTANT — NOT CERTIFIED EQUIPMENT BNWAS is a personal productivity and discipline tool. It is NOT a certified Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System under IMO MSC.128(75) or any other maritime regulation. It must not be used as a replacement for certified BNWAS equipment required by SOLAS or flag state regulations on commercial vessels. Do not rely on this app as your sole means of watchkeeping. Always follow your vessel's standing orders and applicable maritime regulations. The app requires audio background mode to continue alerting when the screen is locked. No sound is produced until an alarm condition is reached.
