ChildSaver
Frederic Dluzinski
Parental control app for risk alerts, app protection, and screen time.
ChildSaver helps parents protect their children on Android devices.
With parental or guardian consent, the app is installed on the child's device and monitors for risk signals—bullying, grooming, hate speech, and self-harm—in messages, searches, and on-screen content in supported apps.
Detected risks are reported to the parent dashboard at https://childsaver.de.
WHAT YOU GET
- Real-time alerts about risks on your child's phone.
- Parent dashboard with on-screen context for each alert.
- App overview and screen time (Android usage statistics).
- Parentally approved app blocks on the child's device.
- Tamper alerts if protection on the child's device is disabled.
USE OF THE ANDROID ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE
ChildSaver is not an accessibility tool for people with disabilities. The app uses the Android Accessibility Service exclusively for the parental control features described above:
- Detecting risk signals in messages, searches, and on-screen content of supported apps;
- Displaying the relevant screen context for each alert in the parent dashboard;
- Enforcing parent-approved protection settings (e.g., blocking apps marked as not allowed);
- Detecting when the protection is disabled so that parents can be notified.
Standard Android APIs are insufficient for this—the necessary text and screen state is only available through the accessibility tree.
`` ... When the Accessibility Service is enabled, ChildSaver can process the following
data—only while it is visible on the screen, and only to the extent necessary for parental control features: other in-app messages; SMS or MMS messages (where monitored);
names and display names of visible senders and contacts; personal identifiers for account, device, and pairing linking only;
other on-screen personal information from supported apps; visible photos (analyzed exclusively locally on the device—image content is not stored in the parent dashboard);
visible videos (local random sample analysis—videos are not stored); browser context (URLs and visible browser/search text on the screen—no browser history database); in-app search queries;
rough page view and tap information related to protection status;
installed apps (package names and labels) for setup, Screen Time, and App Lock; Other actions such as app foreground events and attempts to disable protection.
WHAT CHILDSAVER DOES NOT DO
- ChildSaver does not record phone calls. Voice and audio messages are not currently transcribed or uploaded.
- ChildSaver does not save photos or videos to the parent dashboard.
Image and video analysis runs locally on the child's device; only a risk score and brief metadata leave the device when a detection is made.
- ChildSaver does not read passwords, banking apps, or your personal photo gallery.
- ChildSaver does not change Android system settings and does not prevent the uninstallation of other apps without parental consent.
- ChildSaver is not a tool for recording phone call audio.
CONSENT AND TRANSPARENCY
ChildSaver is intended for use on a child's device with the consent of a parent or guardian. Before requesting accessibility permission, the app displays a clear information screen with the aforementioned data types and an "I do not agree" option, which prevents the permission process from starting.
