WHAT ONE PHOTO GIVES YOU
- The common name, and the Latin scientific name under it
- The conservation status of the species, from Least Concern to Critically Endangered
- Its class: mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, insect, arachnid or mollusk
- Habitat, native range, diet, adult size and lifespan, metric and imperial
- Whether it is active by day, at night or at dusk
- A confidence level, so you can see how sure the match is
- The probable breed, when the photo is of a dog or a cat
LEAST CONCERN, OR CRITICALLY ENDANGERED?
That category leads every result, because it is the one thing the name alone does not tell you. It describes the species across its whole range on a published scale: Least Concern, Near Threatened, Vulnerable, Endangered, Critically Endangered. Domestic animals come back as Domesticated, and an unassessed species as Not Evaluated rather than a made-up number. It is a category rather than a rarity score, and it belongs to the species, not to the individual animal in your photo.
