**AuroraAlert - Discover when the Northern Lights are visible**
AuroraAlert is the app for everyone who wants to spot the Northern Lights (aurora) in the Netherlands and Belgium. With accurate forecasts and real-time notifications, you will never miss the chance to admire this breathtaking natural phenomenon again.
**Key features:**
π **72-hour Kp forecast**
View detailed forecasts of geomagnetic activity for the next 3 days. The Kp index indicates the probability of seeing the Northern Lights at your location. Kp values ββof 6-7 or higher indicate that the Northern Lights may be visible in the Netherlands and Belgium.
β‘ **60-90 minute energy forecast**
Receive real-time forecasts of the expected energy of the Northern Lights. These short-term forecasts are based on measurements from GEOS satellites and give you an accurate indication of when the auroral activity will reach Earth. π **Local and Horizon Predictions**
See not only what is happening directly above you, but also what is visible on the horizon. The app displays energy predictions for your local position (within 100 km) and for activity 1,000 km away, which is often visible on the horizon due to the height of the aurora (100-300 km).
π **Moon Phase and Cloud Cover**
Plan your search for the Northern Lights perfectly with information on the moon phase, moonrise and moonset, and local cloud cover. Knowing when the moon sets and the sky is clear can be crucial for actually seeing the Northern Lights.
π **ACE Data for the Best Moment**
The app prioritizes real-time solar wind data from the ACE (Advanced Composition Explorer) satellite. ACE is located 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, between the Sun and the Earth, and measures speed, density, and the magnetic field there. This allows you to know approximately half an hour to an hour in advance what is coming to Earth β exactly when to go outside for the optimal moment to see the Northern Lights.
π **Smart Notifications**
Set your own thresholds for the KP index and aurora energy. Receive automatic notifications when conditions are favorable for visible Northern Lights. Notifications are repeated approximately every 15 minutes as long as the values ββremain above your set thresholds.
π **Clear Visualizations**
All data is presented in clear, color-coded graphs. The blue line in the graphs indicates the current time, so you can immediately see which predictions have already passed and which are yet to come. **Ideal for:**
- Aurora photographers who want to capture the perfect moment
- Nature lovers who want to experience the Northern Lights
- Anyone interested in space weather and geomagnetic activity
- Travelers going to northern destinations
**Based on Science**
All predictions are based on data from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center and other reliable sources. The app uses the same data that scientists use to predict aurora.
**User-friendly**
With an intuitive interface and comprehensive information on every aspect of the predictions, AuroraAlert is suitable for both beginners and experienced aurora spotters.
Download AuroraAlert now and never miss the chance to see the Northern Lights again!
