The tabuhaka RESTOK (Reserviläinen tactical offline map) application allows you to draw and share tactical markings on the offline map of Finland (city, terrain, aerial photos). The application can also be used to calculate the map coordinates of observations based on your own location and to determine relative distances and directions.

The application supports commonly used WGS84 decimal coordinates (cf. e.g. Google Maps) and MGRS coordinates (Military Grid Reference System) intended for military use.

The application is only available in Finnish. The application's uses include conscript service, national defense training, and exercises related to reservist and official activities. Application tasks include e.g. analysis of one's operating environment, planning of tactical operations and intelligence operations. RESTOK is suitable for personal use or roughly company-level needs.

The application does not collect usage or user data. The download of offline maps takes place during the implementation phase of the application, from a Finnish cloud service. Implementation does not require setting up infrastructure, and after implementation, the application can be used offline. Please note that the application can also be installed e.g. to the user's old mobile phone, which can be permanently left offline.

The user may use the application only at his own risk: the application is delivered "as is, with all faults" ("AS IS"). Neither the developer nor the publisher is responsible for e.g. functionality of the application, availability of materials, information content, correctness or suitability of the application for a specific purpose. The use of the application must not endanger the user or his organization.

The application uses the following technologies or materials: Finland's OpenStreetMap map (c) OpenStreetMap Contributors (Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL)), Finland's terrain map, ortho-aerial images and nomenclature (Landmark Open Data Designation CC 4.0 license, includes materials from 2024), Finland's privacy grid 2024 (Meteorological Institute, Designation CC 4.0 license), Mapsforge (LGPL v3 -license), Google SphericalUtil (Copyright Google Inc., Apache V2.0 license), MGRS-Java and Grid-Java libraries ((c) National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) in Collaboration with BIT Systems, MIT License).

A typical single-user example: The user familiarizes himself with the training area on the map and adds tactical drawings for his own use. During the exercise, the user uses terrain and city maps, aerial photos and GPS positioning and adds additional planning and observational information to the map. The user can also calculate the map coordinates of the object he has detected in relation to his own location. Markings can be divided into several character layers and further into several character files; this makes it easier to manage the markings and the drawings of different exercises don't get confused. After the exercise, the application can still be used to break down the exercises. For example, alternative development paths can be drawn on the map, the analysis of which increases the benefit from the exercise.

In the use case of a small organization, markings are also shared between users: for example, one user can define and draw the boundaries of the training area, name key terrain points, set goals and share the drawings with others. During the exercise, users survey the terrain, share and refine observations, and plan groupings, etc. mission-specific operations. At the beginning or end of the exercise, the application can also be used in a classroom environment: for example, trainers can (with the help of a suitable third-party Android application) share the screen of their own device on the computer screen and on to the classroom screen. In this way, the course of the exercises can be easily illustrated and analyzed also at the group level, which multiplies the benefit from the exercise.
