Grey – Grayscale Screen Filter
Less-noise app
Grey came from a simple frustration: I kept opening Facebook without really meaning to. Not because I wanted to — just out of habit. App blockers felt too extreme, so I built something gentler.
Android lets you turn your entire phone grayscale — but that affects everything. Grey does it per app. It's the closest you can get to making individual apps black and white, without rooting your phone or changing system settings.
Grey puts a grayscale filter over the apps you choose. That's it. They're still there, still accessible — they just look a lot less inviting. Turns out that's enough to break the habit loop for most people.
HOW IT WORKS
Pick the apps you want to filter. Grey runs quietly in the background and applies a grey overlay whenever you open one of them. No interruptions, no lock screens, no timers counting down.
SCHEDULE
You can set time windows where Grey goes inactive — useful if you want it off in the evenings or on weekends. You can add multiple windows, and it handles midnight correctly.
INTENSITY
New in the latest version: you can dial in how strong the filter is. Some people prefer a subtle tint, others want full grayscale.
PAUSE
If you genuinely need to use an app normally, one tap pauses Grey for 10 minutes.
PRIVACY
Grey uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect which app is in the foreground — that's all. It never reads your screen, never logs keystrokes, never connects to the internet. Everything stays on your phone.
No account. No ads. No subscription. Just a quieter phone.
