Folio - Find Your Book Buddy
Max Liao
Get to know someone through a book.
Folio is a social app for making friends through books—building deep connections through shared reading. Books are the entry point for conversation, not the content itself. We are not a matchmaking app, nor a reading tool.
▍Three Mindsets, Mutual Respect
Choose a reason for being here and let others know what you're looking for when you post:
• Pure Book Lover — Coming here to make friends, simply to make friends.
• Seeking Connection — Meeting potential connections through a book.
• Open-minded — Looking at books, people, and connections.
Pure book lovers and those seeking connection see different bookshelves. Mutual respect avoids misalignment.
▍Four Stages of Shared Reading
1. Posting — Leave an invitation for a book you want to read, writing down why you want to read it and what kind of reading companions you expect. Maximum two posts per day, take it slow.
2. Signing Up — When you see a post that interests you, fill out the form to write down what kind of partner you would like to be.
3. Shared Reading — A pairing is formed, and the shared reading room opens. Both parties must complete 25% of their reading and write notes before the chat unlocks. Once unlocked, you can freely chat and save sentences written by your partner.
4. Organizing — Once each party has completed 100% of their reading, all sticky notes are compiled into a commemorative card — you can share your reading reflections on Instagram and Threads.
▍A Personal Study Room
When you don't want to find a partner, this is your private reading record. Record the books you've read, jot down your thoughts, and organize your reading memories. Pairing is an option, not a condition.
▍Design Belief
Quality > Quantity. Every mechanism (posting, registration, progress gate) filters, and the relationships that remain are deeper than those where you can become friends immediately upon meeting.
• Maximum two posts per day, avoid spamming, think carefully before posting.
• Shared reading sticky note wall, just for the two of you.
• One book, one progress, simultaneous posting, shared reading, and reading in the study room.
▍For serious readers
Folio is designed for users aged 18 and up. Here, there are no shortcuts, no judging by appearance, no rushing—only books, sticky notes, and someone willing to finish it together.
