Butterfly Hunters is a simple summer mission for children and parents out in nature. Find and photograph the most common butterflies of the summer, one at a time, and fill your own butterfly album together – with your own photos.
The app is just the tool – the fun happens outdoors. The phone is used to photograph your finds and keep track of which butterflies you have already found and which are left. The most important thing is to get out, have fun and discover nature together.
How it works
You get a bingo board with nine butterflies to find during the summer. When you find one, you photograph it and your own photo fills the box. The butterflies are only captured on photo – never for real. They are always allowed to fly on.
The more you find, the higher you climb in the levels – all the way up to Summer Master. When you reach new levels, you get your own diploma with your name that can be printed.
Do you find a butterfly that is not on the bingo board? It is also saved as a personal find in a collection that can grow throughout the summer.

The My Summer page collects all your finds with location and date. Turn your summer finds into your own butterfly book that you can save or print.
Learn about butterflies
Each butterfly species has short, easy-to-read facts: how common it is, where it is found, when it flies and something fun to remember. For species that are easily confused, the app shows you how to tell them apart. Also keep an eye out for the rare butterfly species.
Good to know
The app does not use any AI to identify butterflies – you are the butterfly experts. Your pictures are only saved on your phone. No account is needed, nothing is sent anywhere, and the app contains no ads or in-app purchases.
The idea for Butterfly Hunters was born during a real summer of butterfly collecting in the family. We hope that the app inspires more people to get outside, discover nature and create great summer memories together.
