This book collects authentic hadiths narrated from the Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah on all matters of faith and life. It presents them in chapters and sections, making them easy for the reader to refer to and benefit from.

The book includes 1,903 hadiths narrated by the Prophet Muhammad, with the text remaining unmentioned, starting with the Companions and, rarely, with the Successors. It narrates the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as narrated by the Companions. In a few instances, it narrates some of the sayings and actions of the Companions, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad or striving to follow his example. Al-Nawawi said about his book: "I decided to compile a summary of the authentic hadiths, and I committed myself to only mentioning authentic hadiths from clear sources, in addition to the well-known authentic books." A number of contemporaries have verified it, and they have weakened some of the hadiths in Riyadh, including Sheikh Al-Albani and Al-Arna'ut. They have judged 3% of the book to be weak. Nevertheless, this result indicates that it has achieved a high degree of authenticity. The hadiths are distributed across nineteen (books), excluding the introductions. The book includes several chapters, the number of which varies according to their subject matter. The chapters are numbered consecutively from the beginning of the book to the end, totaling 372 chapters. They are divided into 20 books.

Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Hizami al-Nawawi al-Shafi'i (631 AH-1233 AD / 676 AH-1277 AD), better known as "al-Nawawi," is a Muslim hadith scholar, jurist, and linguist. He is one of the most prominent Shafi'i jurists, renowned for his numerous books and writings on jurisprudence, hadith, language, and biographies, such as Riyad al-Salihin, al-Arba'in al-Nawawi, Minhaj al-Talibin, and al-Rawdah. He is described as the editor, refiner, corrector, and organizer of the Shafi'i school of thought, as the practice among Shafi'i jurists has been based on what al-Nawawi favors. Al-Nawawi is called the Sheikh of the Shafi'is. When the term "the two Sheikhs" is used among the Shafi'is, it refers to al-Nawawi and Abu al-Qasim al-Rafi'i al-Qazwini.
