KidSafe Agent
greenkite
KidSafe Agent is the child-side app of the KidSafe parental control service. A parent installs it on their own child's phone or tablet and links it to their KidSafe parent account. It is not a stand-alone app — without a parent account and a linking code, it does nothing.
KidSafe Agent is always visible on the device. It keeps a permanent notification in the status bar while running, keeps its own icon in the app list, and shows how to reach the parent on every lock screen. It never hides itself, and it must not be used to monitor another adult.
WHAT PARENTS CAN DO
• Screen time — set a daily allowance and the hours of the day the device may be used. The child sees the time left and today's allowed hours on the lock screen.
• App limits — block chosen apps, or allow them only during set hours. A blocked app shows a notice instead of opening.
• Web filtering — block websites by category or by address in the child's browser.
• Device lock — lock the device on schedule, when the daily allowance runs out, or immediately from the parent app.
• Location — see where the device is, if the parent turns this on.
• More-time requests — the child can ask for extra minutes from the lock screen; the parent approves or declines from their own phone.
• Emergency unlock — a parent password unlocks the device on the spot, even with no internet connection.
WHY THIS APP USES A VPN
KidSafe Agent uses Android's VpnService to filter websites. Providing a VPN is NOT the purpose of this app and no VPN service is offered to the user. The connection is local to the device: only domain-name (DNS) queries are routed through it, every other kind of traffic bypasses it, and it never connects to a remote server. When a blocked address is looked up, the app answers it locally so the page does not load; every other lookup is forwarded unchanged. Nothing is recorded, redirected or sent anywhere through this
connection. The feature is optional — web filtering also works without it, and the app is fully usable if the parent declines it. Android shows its own VPN indicator the whole time the filter is on.
MONITORING DISCLOSURE
KidSafe Agent is a monitoring tool. It reports to the linked parent account which apps are opened on the device, which websites are visited and which search terms are used, how long the device is used, an identifier for the device, and — only if the parent enables it — the device's location. This is disclosed to the child by a permanent notification and by the KidSafe icon on the device. Use it only on devices belonging to your own children, and
tell your child that it is installed.
WHAT YOU NEED
1. The KidSafe app on the parent's phone.
2. A KidSafe account.
3. This app installed on the child's device and linked using the code shown in the parent app.
PERMISSIONS AND WHY THEY ARE NEEDED
• Accessibility — to detect which app is in the foreground and the address shown in the browser, so that blocked apps and websites can be stopped. It is used for nothing else.
• Usage access — to measure how long each app is used.
• Display over other apps — to show the lock screen and the "blocked" notices.
• Location, including in the background — used only while the parent has location turned on for this device.
• Query all installed apps — to list the apps on the device so the parent can choose which ones to limit.
• Run at startup and ignore battery optimisation — so the limits keep working after a restart and are not stopped by power saving.
PRICE
KidSafe Agent is free. Limits and reporting require an active KidSafe subscription on the parent account.
