The four inspired books, which narrate and describe the teaching and the most important salvific events of the life of Jesus Christ, are called Gospels.

The first three Gospels, that is, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, largely narrate the same events and follow the same general pattern in their narration. Since the narratives of these three Gospels can be combined into one, these three Gospels were called Synoptics. The evangelist John, who wrote his Gospel last of all, also had as his purpose to complete the other three Evangelists. Since they mainly mention the Lord's activity in Galilee, John sheds more light on the Lord's teaching and miracles in Jerusalem.

The Gospels were received from the beginning with great reverence by all members of the Church world and read during the time of worship, as they continue to be done to this day, and they were passed on and carefully preserved in various places and sects of all the early Christians, but also the gift of the apostolic and holy life of the faithful. The Lord's signature, which contains a definitive and complete testimony of His divine teaching, which was preserved in them with such precision and love, contributed to the Gospels being the main source of knowledge and interpretation of the divine work of the Lord.

The brief interpretation of Professor P. N. Trembelas was unanimously approved and accepted, immediately after its publication, by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, as well as the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, as well as the other Patriarchates of Alexandria, Jerusalem, and the Archbishopric of Cyprus. These approvals and favors are reflected in the relevant official Letters which are published here.

The approved text of the Ecumenical Patriarchate was used in all publications. In order to facilitate the readers of the Holy Text in their comprehension and to retain the divisions it contains more easily, we have divided the text into verses and at the beginning of each unit we have placed a short summary of its content. Also, at the end, a table of contents and an index have been added, as well as maps at the end.

May the Lord bless this publication, so that the word of the Gospel may be spread with reverence and deeper understanding, and may this precious reading be done and water the divine word, which is the fruit of good and good listening, those who possess the word and bear fruit in patience (Luke 8:15).
