The Bible (Lat. Bible), formerly the Holy Bible and the Bible, is a holy book of Christianity and Judaism (Old Testament), a canon, or indicative collection of texts. The "original" Bible does not exist as a single collection of books, but in the beginning there was a large number of different texts which developed independently and were later canonized or incorporated into the Bible. The Bible used by Christians is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. It is based on the earlier Hebrew Bible, or Tanak, used by Judaism, which, unlike the Bible used by Christianity, does not contain the New Testament or the Apocrypha.

The word Bible comes from the Greek word grammat, or 'writings'. In many languages, the name Biblia, with its variations (for example, English Bible), once used in Finland, comes from the Greek word Biblia, 'scrolls'.

Biblical science is called exegesis and can be studied in Finland at the Universities of Helsinki and Eastern Finland and at Åbo Akademi University.
