SafeSteps: Parental Control

SafeSteps is designed exclusively for parents and legal guardians to help protect their children and manage child-owned Android devices. It is not designed or permitted for monitoring adults, partners, spouses or employees.
SafeSteps lets a connected parent:
- view a child's current and recent location and route history;
- receive SOS, safety-zone, battery, offline-device and permission alerts;
- set daily and weekly app-time limits;
- select allowed and restricted apps;
- pause restricted apps when time is finished or Walking Safety is active;
- view steps, app-usage summaries and the app currently in use;
- ring a specific paired child device with Find Phone;
- request a live audio call with a paired child device; the child must explicitly answer before microphone access begins, and SafeSteps does not record or store call audio.
Monitoring disclosure:
On a paired child device, SafeSteps collects device location (including background location), route points, battery level, step/activity status, app-usage duration, foreground app package name and protection/permission status. This information is transmitted securely through Firebase and is visible only to authenticated members of the connected family account. The child device displays an ongoing SafeSteps notification with an identifiable icon while monitoring and parental-control services are active. SafeSteps does not offer hidden or secret monitoring.
For an optional live audio call, the child receives a visible call request and must tap Answer before microphone access begins. Audio is transmitted live to the paired family device and is not recorded or stored.
AccessibilityService API disclosure:
SafeSteps optionally uses Android Accessibility Service on the child device to detect the foreground app package name and active-app changes. This enables deterministic parental rules: showing the SafeSteps block screen for parent-restricted apps, enforcing the daily time limit and pausing distracting apps during Walking Safety. While a parent-triggered Find Phone alarm is sounding, it also detects a physical button press only to stop the alarm; button presses are not stored or shared.
SafeSteps does not use Accessibility to read screen text, messages, passwords, typed text, calls, audio, photos or private screen content. Immediately before Android Accessibility settings are opened, SafeSteps shows a separate in-app disclosure explaining the data accessed and its use. The user can choose "Not now" or give affirmative consent with "Agree and continue". Accessibility can be disabled at any time in Android Settings; without it, fast app blocking remains unavailable.
SafeSteps does not sell child data. Child monitoring data is not used for advertising. Advertising, when enabled, is displayed only in the parent interface and is removed for Premium accounts. The parent or guardian must have the legal authority to configure monitoring on the child's device. SafeSteps must not be used to track any adult or for secret surveillance.
