umbra is a monochrome android launcher built to keep useful controls close. monochrome icons stay readable instead of becoming solid-color circles. a vertical dock keeps key apps under your thumb. fast typing-first search and a visible hamburger menu mean no letter rail, hidden long-press, or scavenger hunt for settings. minimal, not limited.

monochrome icons that actually work
• consistent monochrome treatment with accent tint and contrast outlines, designed to keep every app recognizable even when its original icon does not cooperate.
• hand-picked palettes and curated wallpaper surfaces, with lock-screen wallpaper control.
• optional labels and grayscale when you want an even quieter home.

search that's faster than scrolling
• search is always one tap away: type a few letters and launch the app you meant.
• fuzzy matching across your apps, plus concept search: type "finance" or "games" and see relevant apps.
• optional on-device contact search for names, phone numbers, and email aliases. contact photos are not read and the index is not saved.
• settings shortcuts, an inline calculator, and a web-search row only when you choose the browser.

a vertical home with controls in reach
• a vertical list of favorites, folders with glyph icons, a vertical dock, and one page of widgets.
• the visible hamburger menu keeps settings one tap away. no hidden app shortcut or long-press path to remember.
• favorites, dock apps, folders, widgets, themes, and layout stay configurable: minimal does not mean limited.

private by architecture
• no umbra account, analytics, crash-reporting sdk, advertising sdk, or app backend receiving your launcher activity.
• optional usage, calendar, contact, and notification access is processed on your phone. notification access can power dots, inline previews, quiet-ping counts, per-app lists, and dismiss controls; umbra does not persist or transmit that content.
• android system backup is disabled. manual backup and settings export happen only when you choose a destination through android; that destination governs any copy you send or sync.

what the play data-safety label means
• the only off-device data in the declaration comes from two optional google play flows: buying pro and choosing to rate or review the app.
• for billing, umbra checks whether pro is owned and receives a google play purchase token so it can unlock and acknowledge pro. it never receives your name, google identity, or card details, and there is no umbra purchase database.
• ratings and review text go directly to google play and may be published there. umbra cannot read what you submit or whether you submitted anything.
• google's form can classify those play flows as collected because data leaves the device for google play; the declaration marks them not shared with third parties.
• no app searches, installed-app list, contacts, calendar data, notification content, settings, or usage data is sent to umbra.

optional extras, never the main idea
• per-app open delays, a home that can change through the day, notification controls, and grayscale are there if you want them.
• the core is still a fast, capable launcher—not a stripped-down phone.

umbra pro is a one-time purchase, never a subscription. it unlocks premium themes and curated surfaces, plus unlimited favorites, dock apps, and widgets. the free tier is fully usable: 7 favorites, 4 dock apps, 3 widgets, and every privacy feature included.
