GeoBaroud – Ultra-Precise, Multi-Format Location Tool

GeoBaroud offers advanced, real-time geolocation by fully utilizing your smartphone's sensors (GPS, accelerometer, magnetometer). Designed to meet the needs of field professionals – firefighters, forestry managers, mariners, and orienteering enthusiasts – GeoBaroud allows you to know your exact position and instantly convert it into four essential formats:

• DFCI Code – The French system adapted for forest fire management. The application automatically detects the DFCI square you are in and specifies the corresponding sub-zone through a detailed analysis of the dynamic grid.

• Decimal Degrees (DD) – A modern, universal, and digital format for quick reading and optimal international compatibility.

• Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (DMS) – A traditional, detailed format ideal for field surveys or demanding operational reports.

• Degrees, Decimal Minutes (DMD) – Intermediate format supported for seamless conversion from GPS readings or technical documents.

• High-performance internal map – IGN, OSM, and satellite basemaps with vector DFCI grid (100 km, 20 km, 2 km, and sub-zones .1 to .5). Tap to locate a point: DFCI, DD, DMS, distance, azimuth, and route conversions.

• Online DFCI mapping – View tracks, water tanks, water points, lookouts, and fire stations on the map (Open DFCI / Valabre Agreement, connection required).

• Offline maps – Download the IGN map by department (96 metropolitan departments, ~200–400 MB/dept) to view the map without a network connection.

• Obstacles & RTE network – Antennas, chimneys over 30 m high, and high-voltage power lines to anticipate risks in the field, particularly during helicopter operations.

• Fully offline – Location, conversions, and DFCI search work without a network connection; only online map backgrounds and layers require an internet connection.

Main features

• Real-time geolocation – GeoBaroud continuously uses your GPS to display latitude, longitude, and margin of error, and calculates the distance to the target in meters or kilometers.

• Automatic multi-format conversion – Whether you use automatic location or manual entry, GeoBaroud instantly converts your position to DFCI, DD, DMS, and DMD.

• Interactive visualization of the DFCI grid – Dynamic grid with precisely positioned points, 2 km × 2 km squares and identified sub-zones, and an integrated compass for intuitive directional reading.

• Orientation and azimuth calculation – Dynamic arrow indicating the target's direction and cardinal azimuth.

• Sharing and map opening – Send your location (and its conversions) via SMS, WhatsApp, or other messaging apps. Open it in Google Maps, Waze, Earth, IGN, etc.

• Interactive input modes – "Locate" mode (GPS) or "Search" mode (manual entry in DFCI, DD, DMS, or DMD).

Why choose GeoBaroud?

• Made by firefighters for firefighters – Designed by field responders for firefighting and emergency operations.

• Ultra-high performance and optimized – Responsive interface and precise calculations integrating distance, azimuth, compass orientation, and multi-format conversion.

• Absolute respect for your privacy – No personal data is collected. Your location remains on your device, and you alone decide whether to share it.

• 100% free, ad-free – A fast and reliable application designed to simplify your field operations.

Download GeoBaroud and take full control of your geolocation with the flexibility to convert between DFCI, DD, DMS, and DMD to meet all your operational requirements.
