The app calculates Great Circle routes using both classical spherical navigation and highly accurate WGS84 geodesic calculations based on Charles Karney's algorithms (GeographicLib). Both calculation methods can be compared directly.

For practical voyage planning, Neptune's Route supports Composite Sailing with a user-defined Maximum Latitude, allowing Great Circle routes to be limited in high latitudes while maintaining efficient ocean passages.
